| Hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (HPND) of Eriocheir sinensis is a multi-symptomatic disease characterized by white color and atrophy of hepatopancreas. This article aims to evaluate the main symptoms of HPND, hoping providing the reference to researchers and clinicians for further unite the diagnosis standard. This study collected 11 individual indicators of Chinese mitten crabs in health or suspected HPND in Xinghua and Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province. Systematic cluster analysis, principal component regression, and multiple correspondence analysis were conducted in the study. The five main indicators of HPND were established, which were vitality, shell hardness, muscle fullness, hepatopancreas color and index. The symptoms of HPND were evaluated as poor vitality, lower shell hardness, atrophy and effusion of pereiopoda, the pale yellow of hepatopancreas, and the low hepatopancreas index (2%-9%). Besides, the analysis showed that some symptoms such as weight loss, Deeper color of hepatopancreas and gill may not be significantly related to the conventional symptoms of HPND. The results showed that five indicators, such as vitality, shell hardness, muscle fullness, hepatopancreas color and index, may be the main indicators in the simplified disease assessment of HPND.
